Guidance & Answers

Questions Families Often Ask

Choosing memory care comes with a lot of questions. Here are answers to some of the most common concerns families have when exploring care options.

Safety is the #1 issue and indicator. Behaviors may include wandering, falls, aggressive behavior, mixing up medications, and leaving the stove on.

Secondly, care needs are be growing. Days and nights are mixed up, they need help with self care, bathing, dressing, toileting, eating, etc. and cannot be left alone or unsupervised.

Lastly, the caregiver’s stress is rising. If it’s taking a toll on the caregiver’s physical and mental health and finances, it may be time to consider additional help.

In San Antonio, Memory care can have a wide range of overall cost and is dependent on the amount of care needed, desired geographic location, and budget. Talk to one of our advisors today to learn more about the average rates.

In certain cases, move-in can happen the same day or within a few days.

Assisted Living is a community where residents each have their own apartment and are able to bring furnishings to make it feel like home. They are able to manage their lifestyles and are somewhat independent—simply needing assistance with their own personal care (i.e. bathing, dressing, toileting, transferring, cooking). Assisted Living also includes housekeeping and activities that encourage socialization.  Residents may come and go from the facility on their own or with scheduled transportation provided by the community.

Memory Care is a community with caregivers that help people who have lost some or all capability of personal care and need constant supervision. The community is secured to prevent residents from wandering out, and most entry ways are coded or alarmed. There is a higher caregiver to resident ratio, and caregivers are specifically trained in Dementia Care.

Selections are made based on our collective experience and knowledge in working with these communities. We visit and learn about the communities and this process helps us choose who is an appropriate potential resident to refer.

We receive feedback from health care professionals such as visiting physicians, hospice and home health providers, and families with experience.
